BACKGROUND AND PROJECT JUSTIFICATION

Life after retirement poses a significant challenge to both government and pensioners in Sub-Saharan African countries. Without adequate planning for life after work, most retirees become dependent on their state and families. However, government programs in the region responsible for the provision of retirement benefits have consistently been unable to provide a sustainable livelihood for pensioners after retirement. This inability to properly implement these programs is compounded by the pensioners’ lack of knowledge and poor financial management skills.
To respond to these challenges, SE International has designed the Africa Retirees & Government Workers Entrepreneurship Innovation and Wellbeing Program (Africa-RGWEIWBP). The program is designed as a financial literacy, financial loan, small business development, and entrepreneurship development package for retirees and employees in the public sector. The intent of this program is to help beneficiaries start their own business before or during their retirement.

As many pensioners retire without a decent accommodation, the program will also offer pensioners the opportunity to build their own houses before retirement, enabling them to maintain their living standards and wellbeing after they retire.

MISSION

Provide government employees the opportunity and knowledge to plan for their retirement while still employed.
